Finding Answers Starts With the Right Assessment
Sometimes life feels overwhelming, confusing, or like something just isn't quite clicking. Whether you're a parent concerned about your child's development, an adult seeking clarity about your own mental health, or someone navigating a legal requirement — a psychological assessment can be the most powerful first step toward understanding, support, and change.
At Breakfree Psychology Services, we offer a comprehensive range of evidence-based psychological assessments for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Our assessments are holistic, family-centred, and grounded in the best available research — including diagnostic assessments accepted for NDIS funding applications.
Our Assessment Services
🧩 Neurodevelopmental & Diagnostic Assessments
Understanding how the brain develops and functions is at the heart of many of our assessments.
Our Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments follow the National Guidelines developed in 2018, ensuring a clear, consistent, and best-practice approach across the country. Every assessment is individual and family-centred — focusing not just on identifying limitations, but on understanding the unique supports each person needs to thrive. We use validated tools such as the MIGDAS-2 to ensure accurate, meaningful outcomes.
We also provide ADHD diagnostic assessments using tools such as the Connors, helping individuals and families understand attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity challenges.
For families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), our psychologists conduct thorough assessments using both in-person and online methods. FASD is a diagnostic term for the severe neurodevelopmental impairments — including difficulties with physical activity, language, memory, learning, and behaviour — that result from brain damage caused by alcohol exposure before birth.
We also assess for Global Developmental Delay, supporting early identification and access to appropriate intervention.
📚 Educational & Cognitive Assessments
Is your child struggling at school? Are you wondering whether there's an underlying reason certain tasks feel harder than they should?
Our psychoeducational assessments are designed to identify learning disorders such as dyslexia and dysgraphia, helping children and adults access targeted support and appropriate accommodations.
We also offer comprehensive intellectual capacity (IQ) testing using internationally recognised tools including the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC). Intellectual capacity is not something that can be directly seen — it can only be measured through action and demonstration of how an individual applies their intelligence within their environment.
For individuals with language barriers, Autism, or cultural and linguistic diversity, we offer specialised intelligence testing designed to provide fair, accurate results regardless of language or cultural background.
💙 Mental Health & Clinical Assessments
Mental health challenges can affect every aspect of daily life — relationships, work, sleep, and overall wellbeing.
Our clinical assessments evaluate a broad range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, and other mental disorders. We use clinical interviews, mental status examinations, and validated tools such as the DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale) and the K-10 to build a clear picture of your current mental health and wellbeing.
🧬 Neuropsychological Assessments
Following a brain injury, stroke, or with concerns about cognitive decline or dementia, understanding how the brain is functioning is critical.
Our neuropsychological assessments are specialised evaluations examining memory, executive functioning, attention, processing speed, and other cognitive abilities. These assessments provide valuable insights to guide rehabilitation, treatment planning, and support needs.
📋 Functional & Behavioural Assessments
Understanding behaviour is key to developing effective strategies and supports.
A Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) is a structured process of gathering detailed information about behaviours of concern — identifying when and where they occur in order to better understand the purpose or "why" behind the behaviour. This information is used to develop targeted, compassionate intervention strategies.
Our adaptive functioning assessments measure daily living skills and independence, and are commonly used to support NDIS applications and disability support planning.
⚖️ Forensic & Risk Assessments
We provide a range of assessments for legal, workplace, and regulatory purposes.
Our Fit and Proper Person assessments are completed when an individual is directed by Weapons Licensing to provide evidence of their mental fitness when applying for or renewing a Weapons Licence. These assessments may also be used to provide certification to Law Courts, employers, and government agencies requiring confirmation of sound mental health.
We also conduct risk assessments, capacity assessments, and prepare reports for Court proceedings.
