The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) is the gold standard when it comes to measuring this intellectual performance and does so using a multidimensional approach.
The test measures several types of cognitive function as intelligence is viewed as multi faceted, in the sense that there are different types of intelligence.
In total the WAIS-IV has 10 tests, combined into 4 global areas of intelligence. These are the verbal comprehension index (VCI), perceptual reasoning index (PRI), working memory index (WMI), and processing speed index (PSI).
- VCI is a measure of an examinees ability to listen, use learned information, reason and express an answer, and can reflect preferences for verbal information or a need for longer time to process information.
- PRI is a measure of an examinees ability to problem solve by using visual motor and visual spatial abilities, and can reflect preferences for learning by doing and comfort with unexpected situations or tasks.
- WMI is a measure of an examinees ability to hold new information in their mind, while at the same time manipulating this information to produced an outcome, which can reflect a high ability to learn and achieve.
- PSI is a measure of an examinees ability to create order visually, by scanning and differentiating visual information, which can reflect an ability to read and develop as the quicker this is performed the less information is required to be held in working memory.
Our WAIS Testing solutions in Qld are suitable for those aged between 16 years and 0 months to 90 years and 11 months and individuals seeking information on general cognitive behaviour.
