Online sessions are very effective and have many benefits, including being able to have counselling in the privacy of your own home. We use an online platform called Zoom.
What is Zoom?
Zoom is a video-conferencing program which you can download for free onto your computer or as an app on your phone, which allows you to host or attend meetings with other people. There are paid versions too, but the Basic version is free and pretty great.
We chose Zoom for our therapy consultations because it has high security and privacy standards, and end-to-end (user-to-user) encryption, which means it is harder to hack.

How do I set up a Zoom account?
Also, we recommend setting up your Zoom account well in advance and having a go at testing out your camera and microphone to make sure it all works. You can also test out all the features in Zoom, such as the virtual backgrounds!
How will I access my therapy session via Zoom?
What will a therapy session via Zoom be like?
We ask that you do the normal things you would do in preparation for a therapy session, E.g.:

|Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?|| |
No referral is required.
|What are the conditions around late cancellations?|| |
Rescheduling or cancelling a marathon couples counselling session or a group program requires written notification and must be provided 3 weeks prior to your scheduled marathon or group session. If notified after this period venue costs and time allocated for your marathon or group have already incurred costs. Please choose your dates carefully to ensure you can commit to your scheduled dates, as Breakfree Psychology Services will not be responsible for changes in personal circumstances or weather events, or any other situation, without exception.
Rescheduling or cancelling an individual or couples appointment requires 3 full business days notice (72 hours). Failure to provide this notice will result in the full fee for your appointment being charged, without exception, regardless of personal circumstances.

Yes. Online sessions are very effective and have many benefits, including being able to have counselling in the privacy of your own home. We use an online platform called Zoom. If you choose to have an online appointment you will be sent a link which you will click on at the time of your appointment. The link includes instructions that are very easy to follow. We are also able to offer phone appointments if you prefer.
|What is included in a marathon couples counselling session?|| |
|Can I receive a rebate from Medicare for couples counselling?||No. Medicare rebates are only payable for individual psychology sessions only.|
|How many couples counselling sessions are usually required?||After the initial three assessment sessions the Gottman Institute recommends having 17 hours of couples therapy.|
|How/when do I pay for sessions?||Credit card details are required when you make your first appointment with Breakfree. These details will be securely stored and used to automatically process payments for future bookings. A receipt is automatically generated and emailed to you following each session.|
|My partner wont attend sessions, can Breakfree still help me?||Yes. Your relationship can still benefit if you are the only one learning about the Gottman principles and how to implement them into your relationship. As you change and model better interactions your partner learns and intern can also start to behave in a more helpful manner.|
|Do you provide discounts for current and ex serving defence members?||Yes. For individual sessions only. Please obtain a referral through Open Arms.|

|Why do I have to apply to do a marathon?||In some circumstances a marathon session is no advisable. This will be discussed with you at the time of your application.|
